Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before operation. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy gloves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.
  2. Clear Work Area: Remove stones, nails, wire, and other debris that could be thrown by the trimmer head.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only, with engine stopped and cool. Use STIHL MotoMix® or 50:1 mix with high-quality 2-cycle oil.
  4. Operation: Keep bystanders and pets at least 50 feet away. Do not operate on unstable surfaces.
  5. Hot Surfaces: Avoid contact with muffler and cylinder during and immediately after operation.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. The cutting line and blades can cause severe cuts.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach the Handle: Slide the loop handle onto the shaft at the desired position. Tighten the clamping screws securely.
  2. Install the Cutting Attachment: Ensure the engine is off. Fit the AutoCut C 5-2 head onto the drive shaft and secure with the retaining nut using the combination wrench.
  3. Install the Debris Shield: Slide the shield onto the shaft and secure it according to the diagram in the manual.
  4. Adjust the Harness (if used): Connect the harness to the machine's attachment points and adjust for a balanced, comfortable fit.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight before starting the engine.

Fuel & Lubrication

Use only clean, fresh, high-octane unleaded gasoline (min. 89 AKI) mixed with a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a 50:1 ratio.

WARNING! Gasoline is extremely flammable. No smoking. Store fuel in an approved container away from heat and sparks.

Starting & Stopping

Starting (Cold Engine):

  1. Place the unit on a firm, flat surface. Ensure the cutting attachment is clear of the ground and obstacles.
  2. Press the fuel pump bulb (primer) at least 5 times until fuel is visible in the bulb.
  3. Move the master control lever to the START/CHOKE position (􀆒).
  4. With your right foot in the rear handle, pull the starter rope briskly until the engine fires (usually 1-3 pulls).
  5. Immediately move the master control lever to the FAST IDLE position (􀆓).
  6. Pull the starter rope again to start the engine.
  7. Allow the engine to warm up at fast idle for 10-15 seconds before moving the lever to the RUN position (I).

Starting (Warm Engine): Follow steps 1, 2 (prime 1-2 times), set lever to RUN (I), and pull the starter rope.

Stopping: Move the master control lever to the STOP position (O).

Operating Instructions

Hold the unit firmly with both hands. Use a smooth, sweeping motion from side to side.

  1. Basic Trimming: Hold the trimmer so the cutting line is parallel to the ground. Swing the tool in an arc, cutting with the tip of the line. Avoid pushing the line into the ground.
  2. Edging: Tilt the trimmer so the cutting line is vertical. Carefully guide the line along the edge of the sidewalk or driveway.
  3. Tap'N Go™ Head: To advance the cutting line, lightly tap the head on the ground while the engine is running at high speed. Do not slam or force it.
  4. Brush Cutting (with blade): Use a sweeping, scything motion. Do not use for woody material over 1/4 inch in diameter.

Tip: Maintain a steady engine speed for consistent cutting. Let the tool do the work.
