Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Always wear protective equipment.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Electrical Safety: Use a grounded outlet (120V). Inspect power cord for damage before each use. Use a circuit with residual-current device (RCD).
  4. Chain Brake Test: Test function before each use by pushing front hand guard forward.
  5. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of kickback zone (upper quarter of guide bar tip).

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate while tired or under the influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place chain on bar, align bar with drive sprocket, fit bar studs into mounting holes, secure with bar nuts (hand-tight).
  2. Tension Chain: Turn tool-free tensioning wheel clockwise until chain fits snugly against bar (should pull smoothly by hand).
  3. Fill Oil Tank: Use STIHL chain oil or equivalent. Fill via oil filler cap until visible in window.
  4. Connect Power: Ensure switch is OFF. Plug into grounded 120V outlet. Secure cord lock.
  5. Final Check: Verify chain brake functions, chain moves freely, and all fasteners are tight.

CAUTION! Always wear gloves when handling chain. Chain is sharp.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: On/Off switch, chain brake lever, front hand guard, oil filler cap, tensioning wheel.

Handle Area: Rear handle with trigger switch, lock-off button (must be pressed to engage trigger), front handle with hand guard.

Chain Brake: Manual activation via front hand guard; inertia activation via kickback. Oil System: Manual oil pump (activated during operation), Ematic™ bar groove and oil outlet. Tensioning: Side wheel for chain adjustment; check tension frequently during break-in period.

Operation

Starting and basic cutting techniques.

  1. Pre-Start Check: PPE on, area clear, chain tension correct, oil filled, cord secure and undamaged.
  2. Starting: Place on firm ground. Press lock-off button, then squeeze trigger. Chain will begin moving.
  3. Basic Cutting: Let chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use lower quadrant of bar for cutting. Do not force saw; let chain do the work.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Maintain firm grip, do not cut with tip, be aware of wood tension and binding.
  5. Stopping: Release trigger. Chain stops. Unplug from outlet when not in use or during maintenance.

Tip: For plunge cuts or precise work, seek professional training. Never operate above shoulder height.

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use round file (4.0 mm) and filing guide. Maintain correct filing angle (30°). Sharpen when saw produces fine dust instead of chips.
  2. Chain Tension: Check frequently, especially during first tank of oil. Adjust with tensioning wheel. Proper tension: chain snug against bar but pullable by hand.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar grooves, flip bar periodically for even wear. Check for wear (especially groove and rail).
  4. Drive Sprocket: Inspect for wear. Replace if worn to prevent chain damage.
  5. General Cleaning: Remove sawdust and resin from housing, cooling fins, and guide bar using a brush.

WARNING! Always disconnect power before any maintenance. Wear cut-resistant gloves.

Lubrication System

Ematic™ system reduces oil consumption by directing oil to critical points.

Operation: Oil is pumped automatically when chain runs. Check oil level frequently via window. Use only STIHL chain oil or approved biodegradable oil for optimal performance and environmental compliance. In cold weather, use winter-grade oil. If no oil appears on bar tip during operation, check tank and oil outlet.

Storage & Transport

Store in a dry, secure place out of reach of children.

  1. Cleaning: Clean entire saw of wood chips and dirt.
  2. Chain & Bar: Apply a light coat of oil to prevent rust.
  3. Storage: Store with chain brake disengaged. Place in case or cover.
  4. Transport: Use scabbard over guide bar. Secure in vehicle to prevent movement.
  5. Long-Term Storage: No special requirements for electric motor.

CAUTION! Always transport with bar scabbard. Never carry by the trigger.
