Read and understand all instructions before use. Always wear proper PPE.
WARNING! A chainsaw is a dangerous tool. Failure to follow safety rules can result in serious injury or death.
Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble on a clean, stable surface.
CAUTION! Ensure chain brake is disengaged before starting.
Front/Rear Handles: Ensure firm grip with both hands. Master Control Lever: Controls stop (0), choke (up), and run (down). Throttle Trigger: With safety throttle trigger lockout. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed to allow throttle trigger movement. Chain Brake Lever/Front Hand Guard: Stops chain if activated. Decompression Valve: Reduces pulling force for starting. Primer Bulb: Press 5+ times to fill carburetor with fuel for cold starts.
Operation: Always engage chain brake before starting. Hold saw firmly on ground. Use correct starting procedure.
Cold Start:
Warm Start: Master Control Lever in run position. No priming needed.
Stopping: Release throttle. Move Master Control Lever to stop position (0).
Always plan your cut and escape path.
WARNING! Never operate above shoulder height. Never cut with the tip. Be alert for kickback.
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Check chain tension | Before each use, and frequently during use |
| Check chain sharpness | Before each use |
| Clean air filter | Every 5 operating hours |
| Clean spark arrestor screen | Every 25 operating hours |
| Clean guide bar groove & oil holes | Weekly during use |
| Check/replace spark plug | Every 50 operating hours |
| Clean fuel filter | Every 50 operating hours or as needed |
| Clean cooling fins | Every 100 operating hours |
CAUTION! Perform maintenance only when engine is off and cool. Disconnect spark plug wire for major work.
Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 5/32" for PM3 chain). Maintain correct filing angle (30°). File all cutters to equal length. Check depth gauges with gauge tool and file down if necessary.
Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Turn side tensioner screw clockwise to tighten until chain fits snugly against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Hold bar tip up and final-tighten bar nuts. Re-check tension after a few minutes of operation.
Tip: A sharp chain cuts faster, is safer, and reduces wear on the saw.
For storage longer than 30 days:
CAUTION! Never store a saw with fuel in the tank for extended periods. Old fuel can damage the engine.
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Engine will not start | No fuel, flooded, bad spark, master control wrong position | Check fuel. Move control to stop, pull starter 5x to clear flood. Check spark plug. |
| Engine starts then dies | Clogged air filter, old fuel, carburetor adjustment | Clean air filter. Use fresh fuel. See dealer for carb adjustment. |
| Chain does not turn | Chain brake engaged, chain too tight, sprocket/clutch worn | Disengage brake. Loosen chain. Inspect sprocket and clutch. |
| Chain throws oil but does not cut | Dull chain, depth gauges too high | Sharpen chain. File down depth gauges with guide tool. |
| Excessive vibration | Loose parts, unbalanced chain, damaged AV mounts | Tighten all nuts/bolts. Sharpen chain evenly. See dealer. |
| Chain comes off bar | Loose chain, worn bar, damaged drive links | Tension chain properly. Inspect bar rails and sprocket nose. Replace if worn. |
