Safety Instructions

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, sturdy boots, and long pants. Keep bystanders and pets at a safe distance. Operate only in well-ventilated areas. Never operate the tool if tired, ill, or under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Inspect the tool before each use for damage or loose parts.

System Overview & Components

Key components: Powerhead (engine/motor), Drive Shaft, Handle Assembly, Attachment Interface (Kombi coupling), and various attachments.

  1. Powerhead: Provides power; features include throttle trigger, stop switch, choke, primer bulb (gas models), and fuel tank.
  2. Drive Shaft: Transfers power from powerhead to attachment gearbox.
  3. Handle: D-loop or bicycle handle with controls; adjustable for operator comfort.
  4. Kombi Coupling: Quick-connect system for attaching tools securely.
  5. Attachments: Includes trimmer head, brush cutter blade, hedge trimmer, pole pruner, blower, and more.

Assembly & Installation

Assemble on a clean, flat surface. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged.

  1. Attach handle: Slide onto shaft, align, and tighten clamping screws securely.
  2. Install drive shaft: Insert into shaft tube, ensuring it engages with powerhead coupling.
  3. Connect attachment: Align Kombi coupling pins, push attachment onto powerhead until it clicks, then rotate locking collar to secure.
  4. Install cutting tool: For trimmer, load nylon line per instructions. For brush cutter, mount blade with correct washer and nut, tightening opposite rotation direction.
  5. Adjust harness: Fit shoulder harness, adjust for balance and comfort before starting.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight. Do not force connections.

Starting & Stopping the Engine

For Gasoline Models:

  1. Fuel mix: Use 50:1 high-quality 2-cycle engine oil with 89 octane minimum gasoline. Shake well.
  2. Check fuel level: Refill if necessary using funnel.
  3. Set switch to "I" (On).
  4. Set choke to full position (cold start).
  5. Press primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  6. Place on firm ground, hold securely. Pull starter cord briskly until engine fires.
  7. Move choke to half position, pull again to start. Warm up for 30 seconds.
  8. To stop: Release throttle, set stop switch to "0".

For Electric Models: Plug into GFCI outlet, ensure switch is off before connecting, then press trigger.

Operating Instructions

Always operate with a firm grip and balanced stance. Keep cutting attachment below waist level. Use a slow, sweeping motion. Do not overreach.

Tip: Take frequent breaks to avoid fatigue.

Maintenance & Care

Perform maintenance with engine off, spark plug disconnected (gas), or unplugged (electric).

  1. Daily: Clean exterior, check for loose parts, inspect cutting attachment for damage.
  2. Air Filter (gas): Clean every 10 hours; replace if damaged. Do not run engine without filter.
  3. Spark Plug: Check gap every 50 hours; replace if electrodes are worn.
  4. Fuel Filter: Replace annually or if clogged.
  5. Gearbox Grease: Lubricate attachment gearhead every 25 hours of use.
  6. Shaft Lubrication: Apply grease to drive shaft splines periodically.
  7. Cutting Tool Sharpening: Sharpen blades with file; replace nylon line as needed.

WARNING! Use only Stihl-approved replacement parts and lubricants.

Storage

Short-term (up to 30 days): Clean tool thoroughly. For gas models, empty fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer. Store in dry, locked area out of reach of children.

Long-term (over 30 days):

  1. Drain fuel tank completely and run engine until it stops to empty carburetor.
  2. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder, pull starter slowly 2-3 times, reinstall plug.
  3. Remove cutting attachment; clean and oil metal parts to prevent rust.
  4. Store in original box or cover in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting
