Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Clear Work Area: Remove stones, nails, wire, and other debris before operation.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only, with engine stopped and cool. Use STIHL MotoMix® or 89+ octane gasoline mixed with STIHL HP Ultra oil (50:1).
  4. Operation Zone: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 meters away.
  5. Hot Surfaces: Avoid contact with muffler and cylinder during/after operation.

WARNING! Improper use can cause serious injury or death. Never operate without proper training and PPE.

Assembly & First Use

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Handle: Slide handle onto shaft, align, and tighten clamping screws.
  2. Install Attachment: Align arrow on attachment with arrow on powerhead, push together, and rotate locking collar until it clicks.
  3. Add Fuel: Use STIHL MotoMix® (pre-mixed) or mix 50:1 with STIHL HP Ultra oil and 89+ octane gasoline.
  4. Initial Start: Place unit on ground, set master control lever to cold start position (choke on), pull starter rope until engine fires, move lever to run position, restart.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight before operation. Do not force attachments.

Master Control Lever: Combines stop switch, choke, and run positions. Throttle Trigger: Located on rear handle. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed to engage throttle. Starting Procedure:

  1. Press fuel pump bulb 5-10 times.
  2. Set master control to cold start (choke).
  3. Pull starter rope until engine fires (1-2 pulls).
  4. Move master control to run position.
  5. Pull starter rope to start.

Attaching Tools

Compatible with STIHL KombiSystem attachments: PolyCut head, Circular Brush Knife, Grass Blade, Hedge Trimmer, Edger, Pole Pruner, etc.

  1. Ensure powerhead is off and cool.
  2. Align arrows on attachment and powerhead.
  3. Push together firmly.
  4. Rotate locking collar clockwise until it clicks.
  5. Tug attachment to ensure secure connection.

Tip: Clean attachment shaft and powerhead socket before connecting.

Operation

Operating techniques vary by attachment.

  1. Trimming/Brushcutting: Use a smooth, sweeping motion from right to left. Keep cutting head parallel to ground.
  2. Hedge Trimming: Use wide, arcing strokes; keep blade teeth away from body.
  3. Edging: Hold unit vertically, guide along edge.
  4. Throttle Control: Use intermittent full throttle for cutting; avoid prolonged idling.
  5. Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle 30 seconds, move master control to STOP.

WARNING! Never operate with loose or damaged attachments. Keep hands and feet away from cutting tools.

Maintenance & Storage

Daily maintenance ensures long life and safe operation.

Storage: Run engine dry or add fuel stabilizer. Clean entire unit. Store in dry, locked area.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug boot before maintenance.

Carburetor Adjustment

Factory preset; adjustment rarely needed. If required:

  1. Start engine and warm up 5 minutes.
  2. Turn idle speed screw (LA) to achieve 2,800 rpm.
  3. Turn low speed screw (L) for smooth acceleration.
  4. Turn high speed screw (H) for maximum 10,500 rpm.
  5. Recheck idle speed.

Note: Only qualified technicians should adjust carburetor. Incorrect settings can damage engine.

Warranty Information

STIHL Limited Warranty: 2 years for commercial use, 4 years for private use (registration required within 8 weeks of purchase). Warranty covers defects in materials/workmanship. Not covered: normal wear, misuse, improper maintenance, non-STIHL parts. For warranty service, contact authorized STIHL dealer.
