Safety Information

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, heavy-duty gloves, long pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 50 feet away. Operate only in good light and visibility.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only, with engine stopped and cool. Use only STIHL MotoMix or 89+ octane gasoline mixed with STIHL HP Ultra oil at 50:1 ratio.
  4. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of kickback zone with cutting attachments. Use reduced kickback saw chain.

WARNING! Improper use can cause serious or fatal injury. Do not operate if tired, ill, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Assembly & First Use

Assemble powerhead with chosen KombiTool attachment before first use.

  1. Attach Handle: Secure handle to powerhead using provided bolts and tool.
  2. Attach KombiTool: Align tool shaft with coupling, push in until it clicks, then pull back to lock.
  3. Add Fuel & Oil: Fill fuel tank with correct 50:1 fuel/oil mix. Fill gearbox (on attachment) with STIHL gear oil.
  4. Initial Start: Place unit on clear, level ground. Follow starting procedure. Allow engine to warm up at idle.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight before operation. Check for fuel leaks.

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Powerhead Controls: Master Control Lever (Choke, Stop, Run), Throttle Trigger, Throttle Trigger Lockout, Primer Bulb, Fuel Tank Cap, Quick-Release Coupling Lever.

Handle: Includes rear handle with throttle trigger and front handlebar. Vibration dampening elements are integrated.

Starting Procedure: 1. Press fuel primer bulb 5-10 times. 2. Set Master Control Lever to choke (cold start) or run (warm start). 3. Press throttle trigger lockout and squeeze throttle trigger once. 4. Place unit on ground, hold front handle, put foot through rear handle. 5. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires. 6. Move Master Control Lever to run position. 7. Pull starter rope again to start.

Attaching KombiTools

The KM100R is compatible with the STIHL KombiSystem line of attachments.

  1. Ensure powerhead is off and cool.
  2. Pull back the Quick-Release Coupling Lever fully.
  3. Insert the drive tube of the KombiTool (e.g., BC, HL, HT, HS, FS) into the coupling.
  4. Push the tool in firmly until you hear/feel a click.
  5. Release the lever. Pull back on the attachment to ensure it is locked.
  6. For attachments with a shaft lock (like trimmer heads), engage the shaft lock before attaching to prevent shaft rotation.

Tip: Keep coupling clean and lightly lubricated with STIHL lubricant for smooth operation.

Starting & Operating

Follow correct procedure for safe and efficient operation.

  1. Cold Start: Follow starting procedure with Master Control Lever in choke position.
  2. Warm Start: Follow starting procedure with Master Control Lever in run position.
  3. Operation: Allow engine to warm up at idle for 30 seconds. Use smooth throttle control. Avoid full throttle for extended periods when not cutting.
  4. Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle briefly, then move Master Control Lever to STOP (0) position.
  5. Using Attachments: Refer to the specific manual for each KombiTool (e.g., brushcutter, hedge trimmer, pole pruner) for correct operating techniques and safety rules.

WARNING! Never operate the unit with a damaged or improperly attached cutting attachment. Always shut off engine before making adjustments.

Maintenance Schedule

Storage

  1. Drain fuel tank completely and run engine until it stops to empty carburetor.
  2. OR, add STIHL Fuel Stabilizer to a full tank of fuel and run engine for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder, pull starter rope slowly 2-3 times, reinstall plug.
  4. Thoroughly clean entire unit.
  5. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store unit with fuel in the tank in an enclosed area. Fuel vapors are explosive.
