Safety Instructions

Read and understand all instructions before use. Always wear proper PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, helmet with face shield, and cut-resistant leg protection.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 50 feet away. Be aware of falling branches.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area, engine off and cool. Use proper fuel/oil mix.
  4. Operation Safety: Hold unit firmly with both hands. Do not operate above shoulder height. Be aware of kickback zone.

WARNING! Risk of serious injury or death from cutting, kickback, falling, or electrical contact. Never operate near power lines.

Assembly & Preparation

Assemble unit before first use.

  1. Attach shaft sections: Connect drive shaft sections and secure locking mechanisms.
  2. Install cutting attachment: Mount guide bar, fit chain, and tension correctly.
  3. Attach harness: Adjust harness for comfortable fit and secure support.
  4. Fuel mix: Prepare STIHL 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio).

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Master Control Lever: Combines stop switch, choke, and run positions. Throttle Trigger: With lockout. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed to engage throttle. Chain Brake Lever: Manual engagement; inertia-activated. Decompression Valve: Reduces compression for easier starting. Chain Oiling Adjustment: Screw for regulating oil flow.

Starting Procedure: Set Master Control to choke (cold start), press decompression valve, place on ground, pull starter rope until engine fires, move Master Control to run, pull again to start.

Operation

Proper technique ensures safety and efficiency.

  1. Starting: Follow starting procedure. Allow engine to warm up.
  2. Cutting: Use top of guide bar for cutting. Let chain do the work; avoid forcing.
  3. Positioning: Keep firm footing. Hold unit securely. Do not overreach.
  4. Shutting Down: Release throttle, allow engine to idle briefly, move Master Control to STOP.

Tip: Plan cuts so branches fall safely. Make relief cuts for larger limbs.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

  1. Daily: Clean air filter, check chain tension and sharpness, inspect for loose parts.
  2. Weekly: Clean cooling fins, check spark plug, clean fuel filter.
  3. Monthly: Check drive shaft lubrication, inspect anti-vibration elements.
  4. As Needed: Replace worn sprocket, clean clutch drum, replace fuel lines.

WARNING! Perform maintenance only when engine is off and cool. Disconnect spark plug wire.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper chain maintenance is critical for safe operation.

Sharpening: Use correct round file size. Maintain correct filing angle (30°). Ensure all cutters are uniform length. Lubrication: Keep oil tank filled. Adjust oil flow for conditions (more for dry, hard wood). Tension: Chain should snap back when pulled from bar. Adjust when cool.

Storage

Prepare unit for extended storage.

  1. Empty fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer and run engine briefly.
  2. Clean entire unit, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  3. Remove chain, clean, and store in oil.
  4. Store in dry, secure location, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Fuel left in tank can degrade and damage engine components.
