Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before operation. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders, especially children or pets, are within 50 feet.
  3. Inspect Tool: Check for loose parts, damage, or fuel leaks before each use.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area, with engine off and cool. Use approved fuel mix.
  5. Operation: Hold tool firmly with both hands. Keep balance and secure footing.

WARNING! Risk of serious injury or death from blade contact, kickback, or improper use. Never operate with one hand.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble handle and blade guard if required.

  1. Attach Handle: Secure rear handle to main shaft using provided bolts and wrench.
  2. Install Blade Guard: Place guard over blade when not in use for safety.
  3. Fuel Mix: Prepare fuel mixture of unleaded gasoline (min. 89 octane) and Stihl 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio.
  4. Fill Fuel Tank: Use funnel to pour fuel mix into translucent tank. Do not overfill.
  5. Check Bar & Chain Oil: Ensure oil reservoir is filled with Stihl bar and chain oil.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight before starting engine.

Controls and Operation

Controls located on rear handle: Throttle trigger, Throttle trigger lockout, Stop switch, Choke lever, Primer bulb.

Starting Procedure:

  1. Place on flat, clear surface. Engage chain brake.
  2. Move stop switch to "I" (run) position.
  3. Set choke lever to cold start position (if engine cold).
  4. Press primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Hold rear handle firmly with left hand, place right foot in handle.
  6. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires. Move choke to run position.
  7. Pull starter rope again to start engine. Allow to warm up at idle.

Operation: Disengage chain brake. Squeeze throttle trigger lockout and throttle to begin cutting. Use smooth, sweeping motions.

Fuel & Lubrication

Use fresh, unleaded gasoline (min. 89 octane) mixed with Stihl 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio.

  1. Mixing: Pour exact amount of oil into clean fuel can, then add gasoline. Shake well.
  2. Refueling: Stop engine and allow to cool. Clean area around fuel cap. Fill tank.
  3. Bar & Chain Oil: Use Stihl bar and chain oil or equivalent. Check level frequently during use.
  4. Lubrication Points: Apply grease to blade drive link as per maintenance schedule.

Tip: Never use fuel older than 30 days. Empty tank for long-term storage.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

  1. Daily: Clean air intake and cooling fins. Check for loose fasteners.
  2. Blade Care: Inspect for damage or dull teeth. Sharpen with round file as needed.
  3. Air Filter: Clean foam filter every 10 hours; replace if damaged.
  4. Spark Plug: Check and clean every 50 hours; gap at 0.020 inches (0.5 mm).
  5. Fuel Filter: Replace annually or if clogged.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Storage

Prepare tool for storage if not used for more than 30 days.

  1. Empty fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove spark plug and add 1 teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder. Pull starter slowly to distribute, then reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire tool, especially cutting blade. Apply light oil to blade to prevent rust.
  4. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.

WARNING! Fuel left in tank can degrade and damage engine components.
