Safety Information

Read all instructions before operation. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders, especially children or pets, are within 50 feet.
  3. Inspect Tool: Check for loose parts, damage, or fuel leaks before each use.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors, away from ignition sources. Allow engine to cool.
  5. Operating Position: Maintain secure footing and balance. Do not overreach.

WARNING! Risk of severe injury from cutting blades. Keep hands and feet away from blades at all times, even when engine is off. Never operate with damaged or missing guards.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all components. Assembly is minimal.

  1. Attach Handle: If shipped separately, secure the D-handle to the shaft using provided bolts and wrench.
  2. Install Blade Guard: Slide the protective blade guard onto the cutting blades for storage and transport.
  3. Fuel Mix: Prepare a fresh 50:1 gasoline to 2-cycle engine oil mixture using STIHL HP Ultra or equivalent ISO-L-EGD certified oil.
  4. Fill Fuel Tank: Add the mixed fuel to the translucent tank. Do not overfill.
  5. Check Bar & Chain Oil: This model does not use bar & chain oil (for hedge trimmer blades).

CAUTION! Use only the fuel/oil mixture specified. Gasoline alone will destroy the engine.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Main Controls: - **Throttle Trigger:** Located inside the rear D-handle. Squeeze to increase engine speed. - **Throttle Trigger Lockout:** Must be depressed before the throttle trigger can be engaged. - **Stop Switch:** Moves to the "I" (RUN) or "O" (STOP) position. - **Choke Lever:** Used for cold starting (positions: RUN, START/CHOKE). - **Primer Bulb:** Press several times to fill carburetor with fuel for cold starts. - **Fuel Tank Cap:** Twist-off cap with attached tether.

Operation: Always start on a flat, stable surface. Hold the unit firmly with both hands.

Fuel & Oil Mixture

Use only fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 and a maximum ethanol content of 10% (E10).

  1. Mix in a clean, approved fuel can: Pour in specified amount of gasoline.
  2. Add the correct amount of high-quality, air-cooled, 2-cycle engine oil (e.g., STIHL HP Ultra).
  3. Close can and shake thoroughly to ensure complete mixing.
  4. Fill trimmer's fuel tank. Avoid spilling. Wipe any fuel from the unit.

Tip: Use pre-mixed, alkylate fuel (like STIHL MotoMix) for extended storage periods or to avoid fuel-related issues.

Starting & Stopping

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place unit on firm, flat ground. Ensure blade area is clear.
  2. Press the primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible in the bulb.
  3. Move the choke lever to the START/CHOKE position.
  4. Set the stop switch to "I" (RUN).
  5. While holding the unit securely, pull the starter rope briskly until the engine 'pops' (attempts to start).
  6. Move the choke lever to the RUN position.
  7. Pull the starter rope again to start the engine. Allow to idle for 10-15 seconds to warm up.

Warm Start: Choke lever remains in RUN position. Prime 1-2 times if needed.

Stopping: Release the throttle trigger. Allow engine to idle briefly. Move the stop switch to the "O" (STOP) position.

WARNING! Never drop-start or throw-start the unit. Keep firm footing.

Cutting Techniques

For best results and safety, use proper cutting techniques.

  1. Plan Your Cut: Visualize the desired hedge shape before starting.
  2. Basic Sweep: Use a wide, sweeping arc motion from the bottom to the top of the hedge.
  3. Top Cutting: Hold the blades parallel to the ground for a level top cut.
  4. Side Cutting: Hold the blades at a slight angle to create a tapered shape (wider at bottom).
  5. Let the Tool Work: Avoid forcing the blades. Use the full length of the blade.
  6. Debris Management: Periodically stop the engine and clear clippings from the blade area and engine cooling fins.

CAUTION! Do not use the tip of the blades for cutting. Be aware of hidden wires or obstacles within the hedge.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity. Always disconnect the spark plug boot before performing maintenance.

Storage

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Short-Term (under 30 days): Run the engine until the carburetor is dry of fuel. Store in a dry, locked location out of reach of children.
  2. Long-Term (over 30 days): a. Add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, run engine for 2 minutes to circulate, OR completely drain all fuel from the tank and carburetor. b. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of engine oil into the cylinder, pull starter rope slowly 2-3 times to coat internals, reinstall plug. c. Thoroughly clean the entire unit. d. Store in a cool, dry place with the blade guard installed.

CAUTION! Storing with untreated fuel can cause gum deposits, clogging the carburetor.
