Maintenance & Cleaning
Regular maintenance ensures long life and safe operation. Always disconnect spark plug boot before performing maintenance.
- After Each Use: Wipe down exterior with a clean, dry cloth. Inspect for loose fasteners or damage.
- Air Filter: Clean weekly under normal conditions, more often in dusty environments. Remove filter, tap clean, or wash in soapy water. Allow to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Spark Plug: Check and clean electrode every 50 hours. Replace if electrode is worn or damaged. Gap: 0.020" (0.5 mm).
- Cutting Head: Replace PolyCut™ spool when line is depleted. Use only STIHL genuine .095" diameter monofilament line.
- Gearhead Grease: Lubricate gearhead every 25 hours of operation using STIHL special gear grease.
CAUTION! Never use water or pressurized air to clean the engine or air filter. Always use genuine STIHL parts.
Storage
Prepare unit for storage if it will not be used for more than 30 days.
- Drain fuel tank completely and run engine until it stops to empty carburetor.
- Clean entire unit thoroughly.
- Remove spark plug and pour one teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder. Pull starter cord slowly to distribute oil, then reinstall plug.
- Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children, and away from ignition sources.
WARNING! Storing fuel in the unit for long periods can cause gum deposits in the carburetor and fuel system.
