Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Main Controls:
Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Press to increase RPM.
Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed before the throttle trigger can be pressed.
Stop Switch: Moves to STOP position to shut off the engine.
Choke Lever: Used for cold starting.
Fuel Tank Cap: Twist to open for refueling.
Primer Bulb: Press several times to fill carburetor with fuel for starting.

Handle: Loop handle contains the throttle trigger, lockout, and stop switch. Ensure a firm, two-handed grip.

Fuel & Lubrication

Using the correct fuel and lubricants is critical for performance and engine life.

  1. Fuel Mixture: Use only high-quality, unleaded gasoline (min. 89 octane) mixed with a premium 2-stroke engine oil at a 50:1 ratio. STIHL MotoMix® is highly recommended for optimal performance and reduced carburetor issues.
  2. Mixing: Mix fuel and oil in a clean, approved container. Shake well before filling the unit's fuel tank.
  3. Gearbox Lubrication: The gearbox at the cutting head must be filled with special STIHL gear oil. Check and refill periodically as per the maintenance schedule.
  4. Air Filter: Check the air filter before each use. Clean with soapy water if dirty and allow to dry completely before reinstalling.

WARNING! Never use straight gasoline or automotive motor oil. This will cause severe engine damage and is not covered by warranty.

Operation Guide

Starting, running, and stopping the trimmer.

  1. Starting (Cold Engine):
    • Press the primer bulb 5-10 times.
    • Move the choke lever to the closed position.
    • Engage the throttle trigger lockout. Do NOT press the throttle trigger.
    • Place the unit on a firm, flat surface. Hold it securely with your foot in the footstep.
    • Pull the starter rope briskly until the engine fires (usually 2-5 pulls).
    • Immediately move the choke lever to the open position.
    • Pull the starter rope again to start the engine. Allow it to idle for 30 seconds.
  2. Starting (Warm Engine): Follow steps above but leave the choke lever open.
  3. Running: Allow the engine to reach full operating speed before beginning to cut. Use a smooth, sweeping motion from right to left.
  4. Stopping: Release the throttle trigger and allow the engine to return to idle. Move the stop switch to the STOP position.

Tip: For the Easy2Start™ system, pull the starter rope slowly until you feel resistance, then pull briskly.

Cutting Attachment Guide

Using and maintaining the AutoCut C 5-2 cutting head.

  1. Line Advance (Tap-and-Go): While the engine is running at high speed, lightly tap the cutting head on the ground. This will automatically advance a fresh length of cutting line.
  2. Replacing the Line Spool:
    • Press in the two locking buttons on the sides of the cutting head and remove the cover.
    • Remove the empty spool. Clean any debris from the housing.
    • Wind new STIHL nylon line (recommended diameter: 2.0 mm) onto the new spool as indicated by the directional arrows.
    • Insert the ends of the line through the eyelets in the spool housing.
    • Reinstall the spool and cover, ensuring it clicks into place.
  3. Cutting Technique: Use the tip of the line to do the cutting. Avoid forcing the head into dense material. Cut tall grass from the top down.

WARNING! Never remove the debris shield. Always inspect the cutting head for damage or wear before use.
