Safety Information & Symbols

Critical safety warnings and explanations of symbols found on the unit and in this manual.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, long pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Operation Zone: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 meters (50 feet) away.
  3. Hot Surfaces: Warning: Muffler and cylinder cover become extremely hot during and after operation.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with engine stopped and cool. Wipe off spills.
  5. Sharp Tools: Cutting attachments are sharp. Handle with care during installation and removal.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Read and understand the operator's manual before use.

Maintenance Schedule

Recommended service intervals to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

  1. Before Each Use: Check for loose fasteners, damaged parts, and proper attachment installation.
  2. Daily (or after use): Clean exterior, check air filter, inspect spark plug.
  3. Every 50 Hours: Clean spark arrestor screen (if equipped), check fuel filter, inspect carburetor settings.
  4. Every 100 Hours: Clean combustion chamber, decarbonize exhaust port, inspect piston/cylinder through exhaust port.
  5. Annually or as needed: Replace fuel line, inspect/replace drive shaft bearings, gearbox grease change.

CAUTION! Use only genuine STIHL replacement parts. Disconnect spark plug boot before performing any maintenance.

Engine System

Fuel System & Carburetor

Components: Fuel tank, filter, lines, and Zama C1Q-S carburetor.

Carburetor Adjustments (Standard Settings): LA: 1 turn open (idle mixture). H: 1 turn open (high-speed mixture). Idle speed screw: Adjust to 2800 rpm.

Fuel Line Replacement: Depressurize tank, remove old lines, install new lines with correct routing (supply and return). Fuel Filter: Replace when clogged or annually. Primer Bulb: Check for cracks and proper operation.

Ignition System

Electronic ignition module (STIHL). Spark plug: Bosch WSR 6 F or equivalent, gap 0.5 mm (0.020").

  1. Check for spark: Remove spark plug, reconnect boot, ground plug against cylinder, pull starter. Look for strong blue spark.
  2. Ignition Module Testing: Use STIHL diagnostic tool or multimeter per resistance specifications in service bulletin.
  3. Stop Switch: Ensure wire is not grounded and switch functions correctly.

Tip: A weak or no spark is often caused by a faulty spark plug, boot connection, or ignition module.

Gearbox & Drive Shaft

Spiral bevel gearbox with grease lubrication. Solid drive shaft with flexible coupling at engine.

  1. Gearbox Grease Change: Remove cover plate, clean old grease, pack with STIHL grease (approx. 30g).
  2. Drive Shaft Removal: Disconnect from engine and gearbox. Inspect for straightness and coupling wear.
  3. Bearing Inspection: Check upper and lower shaft bearings for smooth rotation and no play.
  4. Attachment Locking: Ensure right-hand thread for standard cutting attachments. Use appropriate locking tool.

WARNING! Never operate the unit without the gearbox cover properly installed. Secure the shaft before loosening the attachment nut.

Cutting Attachments

Supports trimmer heads (AutoCut, PolyCut), circular saw blades, and brush knives.

  1. Installation: Use correct guard for the attachment. Secure with flange nut (right-hand thread) and locking tool.
  2. Trimmer Line: Use correct diameter (2.4mm / .095" for standard head). Do not exceed maximum length.
  3. Blade Selection: Use only STIHL-approved saw blades (e.g., 255 mm / 10" for FS 130). Ensure blade is sharp and balanced.
  4. Inspection: Check for cracks, warping, or excessive wear. Replace damaged attachments immediately.

WARNING! Always ensure the cutting attachment has stopped completely before handling. Use the correct guard for each tool.
