Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach the shaft: Connect the drive shaft to the engine unit, ensuring it clicks into place. Secure with the provided locking mechanism.
  2. Install the handle: Slide the loop handle onto the shaft at the desired position and tighten the clamping screws securely.
  3. Fit the cutting attachment: Attach the PolyCut head or chosen blade to the output shaft using the appropriate mounting hardware and spanner. Ensure it is tightened firmly against the rotation.
  4. Prepare fuel: Mix high-quality 2-stroke engine oil with unleaded gasoline (typically at a 50:1 ratio - consult your manual). Fill the fuel tank.

WARNING! Always wear protective equipment: safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, long pants, and sturdy boots. Ensure all fasteners are tight before operation.

Starting & Stopping

Follow these steps for safe starting and stopping procedures.

  1. Cold Start: Place the unit on a firm, flat surface. Press the fuel primer bulb several times until fuel is visible. Set the master control lever to the cold start position (choke on). Hold the unit securely with your foot in the carrying ring. Pull the starter rope briskly until the engine fires. Move the master control lever to the warm start/idle position. Pull the starter rope again to start the engine.
  2. Warm Start: Set the master control lever directly to the warm start/idle position and pull the starter rope.
  3. Stopping: Release the throttle trigger and allow the engine to return to idle. Press and hold the stop switch until the engine comes to a complete stop.

CAUTION! Keep the cutting attachment clear of the ground and obstacles during starting. Never drop-start the unit.

Controls and Adjustments

Master Control Lever: Combines choke, throttle setting, and stop functions. Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed to allow throttle engagement. Stop Switch: Stops the engine.

Adjustments: Handle position can be adjusted by loosening the clamp. Harness hooks are provided for attaching a professional harness. The cutting head can be adjusted for line length by bumping on the ground (PolyCut head).

Attachments & Cutting Tools

Compatible with a range of Stihl attachments. PolyCut Head: For trimming grass with nylon line. Circular Metal Blades: For cutting thick weeds, brush, and saplings. Plastic Blades: For lighter vegetation. Always ensure the correct guard is fitted for the attachment in use.

  1. Select the correct tool for the job (grass, weeds, brush).
  2. Use the appropriate mounting kit and ensure it is securely fastened.
  3. Always fit the matching, approved cutting attachment guard.

Tip: Sharpen metal blades regularly and check nylon line for wear. Use only genuine Stihl attachments.

Operation & Techniques

Use a balanced, comfortable stance. Hold the unit firmly with both hands.

  1. Trimming (Nylon Line): Use a sweeping side-to-side motion, keeping the head parallel to the ground. Advance slowly. "Bump" the head on the ground to feed more line.
  2. Brushcutting (Blade): Use a slow, deliberate swinging arc from right to left (for right-handed users). Let the blade do the work; do not force it.
  3. Maintain a firm grip and be aware of the "kick-out zone" to the side and rear if the blade strikes a solid object.
  4. Always cut at full throttle for clean cuts and to prevent blade jamming.

WARNING! Never operate the unit with one hand. Clear the work area of stones, wire, and other debris. Keep bystanders and pets at a safe distance.

Safety Features

Throttle Trigger Lockout: Prevents accidental acceleration. Stop Switch: Immediate engine cut-off. Anti-Vibration System: Reduces user fatigue. Spark Arrestor Muffler: Helps prevent fire ignition from exhaust sparks. Cutting Attachment Guard: Essential for deflecting debris.

Maintenance & Storage

Perform maintenance only when the engine is off and cool.

Daily/Before Use: Check for loose fasteners, damaged parts, and fuel leaks. Clean the air intake and exterior. Check the cutting tool for damage and sharpness.

Periodic: Clean or replace the air filter. Check the spark plug. Clean the spark arrestor screen in the muffler (if equipped). Grease the drive shaft gearhead (if applicable).

Storage: For long-term storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the unit thoroughly. Store in a dry, secure place.

CAUTION! Use only STIHL approved parts and lubricants. Never use a damaged or modified unit.

Regulatory Information

This power tool complies with relevant EU machinery and EMC directives. It features a spark arrestor muffler meeting USDA Forest Service standards.
