Safety Information

Read all instructions before operation. Wear proper PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Awareness: Understand kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip). Use reduced-kickback chain.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources. Use approved fuel containers.
  5. Transport: Engage chain brake and install scabbard/bar cover when carrying.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous tools. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate when tired or under the influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Install Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs, loop chain over sprocket and bar with cutters facing forward in top guide. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh fuel mix (50:1 gasoline to STIHL HP Ultra or equivalent 2-stroke oil).
  3. Fill Chain Oil Tank: Use STIHL chain oil or equivalent for bar lubrication.
  4. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle interlock, and chain brake function properly.
  5. Check Chain Tension: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely by hand.

CAUTION! Ensure chain brake is disengaged (pulled back toward front handle) before starting.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Master control lever combines stop switch, choke, and start positions.

Controls: Master Control Lever (Stop/Choke/Run), Throttle Trigger, Throttle Interlock, Chain Brake Lever, Decompression Valve Button, Fuel & Oil Caps.

Starting (Cold Engine): 1. Engage chain brake (forward). 2. Set Master Control to choke position (full up). 3. Press decompression valve (if equipped). 4. Pull starter rope sharply until engine fires. 5. Move Master Control to half-throttle position. 6. Pull starter rope again until engine starts. 7. Briefly blip throttle to disengage fast idle. 8. Disengage chain brake (pull back toward front handle).

Starting (Warm Engine): Set Master Control to run position (horizontal). Pull starter rope.

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal cutting and safety.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use correct round file size and guide. Maintain correct filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters evenly.
  2. Chain Tension: Check frequently when new; adjust as needed. Chain should snap back when pulled from bar.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove and oil holes. Flip bar regularly for even wear. Dress bar rails with flat file if burred.
  4. Sprocket Inspection: Check drive sprocket for wear; replace if worn to prevent chain damage.

Tip: Keep chain sharp. A dull chain increases effort, wear, and risk of kickback.

Engine Maintenance

Air Filter: Clean regularly (tap out debris, wash in soapy water if very dirty). Replace if damaged. Spark Plug: Clean and regap periodically (gap typically 0.020"). Replace annually or as needed. Cylinder Fins: Keep clean for proper cooling. Muffler/Spark Arrestor: Clean screen periodically to prevent clogging. Fuel Filter: Replace annually or if clogged.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Fuel & Lubrication

Fuel Mix: Use 89 octane or higher unleaded gasoline mixed with a high-quality 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio. Do not use fuel older than 60 days. Chain Oil: Use proper bar and chain oil. Check oil flow before each use (hold saw over light surface, run at high speed; oil should appear on chain/bar). Oil Pump Adjustment: Some models allow adjustment of oil flow via screw (consult specific manual).

Storage Guidelines

Long-term storage (over 30 days):

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of 2-stroke oil into cylinder, pull starter slowly to coat, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Loosen chain tension. Store in dry, secure place.

CAUTION! Storing with fuel can cause varnish buildup in carburetor.
