Safety Information

Always read and understand the manual before operation. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of obstacles and bystanders. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Chain Brake: Test before each use. Engage when carrying or not cutting.
  4. Kickback Awareness: Avoid contact with bar nose; hold saw firmly with both hands.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate when tired or under the influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Assemble guide bar and chain. Mix fuel and fill tanks.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs, adjust tension, secure with nuts. Fit chain with drive links in bar groove.
  2. Fuel Mix: Use high-quality 2-stroke oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (ratio 1:50). Shake well.
  3. Fill Tanks: Add fuel mix to fuel tank and bar/chain oil to oil tank.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Chain should snap back when pulled from bar. Adjust tensioning screw as needed.

CAUTION! Use only Stihl-approved oils and fuels. Improper mix can damage engine.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Master Control Lever: Choke (cold start), run position, stop. Throttle trigger with lockout. Chain brake lever.

Starting Procedure (Cold): Engage chain brake. Set master control to choke. Pull starter rope until engine fires. Move control to run position. Pull again to start. Warm start: Set to run position only.

Operation: Hold saw firmly. Squeeze throttle trigger to increase speed. Allow chain to reach full speed before cutting. Use full throttle during cuts. Release trigger to idle. Engage chain brake when pausing.

Stopping: Release throttle, allow to idle. Move master control to STOP position.

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use round file and guide. Maintain correct filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters evenly.
  2. Chain Tension: Check frequently when hot and cold. Adjust via side tensioning screw.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove. Flip bar periodically for even wear. Check for wear and damage.
  4. Lubrication: Ensure oiler is working. Chain should throw a fine line of oil.

Tip: A sharp chain reduces effort and kickback risk. Replace worn or damaged chains immediately.

Engine Maintenance

Air filter, spark plug, and muffler require regular attention.

  1. Air Filter: Clean regularly with compressed air or soapy water. Replace if damaged.
  2. Spark Plug: Check gap (0.5 mm). Clean or replace if fouled. Use recommended type.
  3. Muffler: Keep spark arrestor screen clean. Remove carbon deposits.
  4. Cylinder Fins: Keep cooling fins clean for proper heat dissipation.

WARNING! Perform maintenance only when engine is off and cool. Disconnect spark plug wire for safety.

Fuel & Lubrication

Use fresh, high-quality fuel mix and bar/chain oil.

Fuel Mix: Unleaded gasoline (min. 90 octane) with Stihl 2-stroke oil at 1:50 ratio. Do not use fuel older than 30 days. Store in approved container.

Bar & Chain Oil: Use Stihl chain oil or equivalent for high adhesion. Check oil level before each use.

CAUTION! Fuel is highly flammable. No smoking. Refuel outdoors, away from ignition sources. Wipe spills immediately.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare saw for storage to prevent fuel system issues.

  1. Empty fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and store in oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.

Long-Term Storage: Consider professional servicing. Fog engine with oil if storing over 30 days.
