Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Always wear protective equipment.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of obstacles, ensure secure footing, keep bystanders away.
  3. Chain Safety: Always engage chain brake when not cutting. Keep chain sharp and properly tensioned.
  4. Fuel Safety: Mix fuel outdoors, use approved gasoline and 2-stroke oil. Store fuel in approved containers.

WARNING! Risk of serious injury or death from kickback, cutting, or fire. Never operate without proper training and PPE.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs, align chain with sprocket, tension chain correctly.
  2. Fill Fuel: Use correct 50:1 fuel/oil mix (check manual for exact ratio). Fill to marked line.
  3. Fill Chain Oil: Use approved bar and chain oil. Fill oil tank.
  4. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, trigger lockout, and chain brake function smoothly.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tightened to specified torque. Do not overtighten.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: Front Handle with throttle trigger and lockout, Rear Handle, Master Control Lever (combines choke/start/run functions), Chain Brake lever, Decompression valve (if equipped).

Components: Fuel tank cap, Oil tank cap, Muffler, Spark plug, Air filter cover, Chain tensioner, Bar stud nuts.

Operation: Master Control Lever positions: STOP (0), START (choke position), RUN (normal operation). Chain brake: Engage manually by pushing forward; automatic engagement possible during kickback.

Starting & Operation

Cold Start Procedure (on ground):

  1. Engage chain brake. Set Master Control to START (choke).
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Pull starter handle sharply until engine fires.
  4. Move Master Control to RUN. Pull starter again to start.
  5. Blip throttle to disengage fast idle. Release chain brake to cut.

Warm Start: Set Master Control to RUN, pull starter.

Cutting Techniques: Use full throttle when cutting. Do not let tip contact objects (kickback risk). Plan escape path. Never cut above shoulder height.

Maintenance Schedule

Daily/Before Use: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check fuel/oil levels. Inspect for loose fasteners.

Weekly/Monthly: Clean air filter. Check spark plug. Clean cooling fins. Inspect bar for wear.

Annually/Seasonally: Replace fuel filter. Clean carburetor (if needed). Check anti-vibration elements. Professional servicing recommended.

Tip: Use only genuine Stihl parts for optimal performance and safety.

Chain & Bar Care

Chain Sharpening: Use correct round file size. Maintain correct filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters evenly.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Adjust tensioning screw until chain fits snugly against bar (can be pulled by hand).
  2. Lubrication: Ensure oiler works; adjust flow if needed. Always use bar and chain oil.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar periodically for even wear.

WARNING! Always wear gloves when handling chain. Ensure engine is off and cool.

Storage Guidelines

Long-term Storage (over 30 days):

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and store in oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Store in dry, cool place, protected from dust.

CAUTION! Fuel left in tank can degrade and damage carburetor. Always use fuel stabilizer if storing with fuel.
