Installation & Assembly

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble on clean, stable surface.

  1. Attach guide bar and chain: Place bar on studs, align chain with sprocket, adjust tension.
  2. Install handle: Secure front and rear handle assemblies with provided bolts.
  3. Fill tanks: Add STIHL HP Ultra oil to oil tank; mix fuel (50:1 gasoline to STIHL oil).
  4. Check chain brake: Ensure brake band engages properly when front hand guard is pushed forward.

WARNING! Always wear protective gloves when handling chain. Ensure all fasteners are tightened to specified torque.

First-Time Setup

Before first start, complete pre-operation checks.

  1. Chain tension: Adjust so chain snaps back when pulled from guide bar.
  2. Chain lubrication: Check oil flow by holding saw over light surface and running at high idle.
  3. Fuel system: Prime carburetor by pressing fuel bulb 5-10 times.
  4. Starting procedure: Set master control lever to cold start position; pull starter rope until engine fires.

CAUTION! Never start saw unless bar and chain are properly installed and tensioned.

Controls and Settings

Master Control Lever: Combines stop switch, choke, and run positions. Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Trigger Interlock: Must be depressed to operate throttle. Chain Brake Lever: Manual activation; inertia-activated. Decompression Valve: Reduces starting effort. Chain Catcher: Prevents broken chain from striking operator. Front Hand Guard: Activates chain brake when pushed forward.

Adjustments: Chain tension (side knob), Idle speed (LA screw), High speed (H screw), Oil pump output (adjusting screw).

Connecting Accessories

STIHL ROLLOMATIC® Guide Bar: Compatible with 16" and 18" lengths. STIHL PICCO™ Micro 3 (PMM3) Saw Chain: .325" pitch, .050" gauge. STIHL Scabbard: For bar protection during transport and storage. STIHL Fuel Can: For proper fuel mixing and storage.

  1. Ensure saw is off and cool before installing accessories.
  2. Match chain pitch and gauge to guide bar specifications.
  3. Use only STIHL-approved accessories for optimal performance and safety.

Tip: Always clean bar groove and oil holes before installing new chain.

Operating Procedures

Supports felling, limbing, bucking, and pruning operations.

  1. Starting: Set master control to cold start; pull starter rope until engine fires; move to run position.
  2. Warm-up: Allow engine to idle for 30 seconds before applying load.
  3. Cutting: Apply light pressure; let chain do the work; avoid twisting in cut.
  4. Chain brake test: Regularly test by pushing hand guard forward at idle.
  5. Shutdown: Allow to idle for 30 seconds; move master control to stop position.
  6. Chain sharpening: Use STIHL filing kit; maintain 30° top plate angle.
  7. Bar maintenance: Rotate bar regularly; clean oil passages weekly.
  8. Storage: Empty fuel tank; run carburetor dry; clean entire saw.

WARNING! Always wear chainsaw protective equipment: helmet, eye/ear protection, gloves, chaps, and boots.

Safety Features

Chain Brake: Inertia-activated and manual. Throttle Trigger Interlock: Prevents accidental throttle engagement. Chain Catcher: Reduces risk from broken chain. Right Hand Guard: Protects from rear kickback. Anti-vibration System: Reduces operator fatigue. Decompression Valve: Makes starting safer and easier.

Care & Maintenance

Clean after each use. Check all fasteners before operation.

Daily: Clean air filter, check chain tension, inspect guide bar, clean cooling fins. Weekly: Clean spark arrestor screen, check fuel filter, clean chain brake components. Monthly: Check spark plug gap (0.020"), clean carburetor compartment, inspect anti-vibration elements.

CAUTION! Use only STIHL-approved replacement parts. Never modify safety devices.
