Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs, fit chain around sprocket and bar groove, tension correctly.
  2. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh fuel mix (50:1 gasoline to 2-stroke oil).
  3. Fill Oil Tank: Use STIHL or approved bar and chain oil.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Chain should snap back when pulled from bar.

WARNING! Always wear protective gear (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, chainsaw chaps, steel-toe boots). Ensure chain brake is functional before starting.

First-Time Operation

Perform pre-start checks and start the saw safely.

  1. Pre-Start Check: Verify chain tension, fuel/oil levels, and that bar nuts are tight.
  2. Starting Procedure: Set master control lever to cold start position (choke on). Pull starter rope sharply until engine fires. Move lever to run position and pull again to start.
  3. Warm-Up: Allow engine to idle for 30 seconds before applying throttle.
  4. Test Chain Brake: With engine idling, engage brake forward to ensure chain stops instantly.

CAUTION! Never start the saw unless it is on the ground or firmly held. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Master Control Lever: Combines stop switch, choke, and run positions. Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed to allow throttle operation. Chain Brake Lever: Manual engagement to stop chain. Decompression Valve: Reduces cylinder pressure for easier starting. Primer Bulb: (If equipped) pumps fuel for cold starts.

Operation: Start with master control in cold start position. Once engine fires, move to run position. Use throttle trigger for cutting. Engage chain brake when not actively cutting or for safety.

Fuel & Lubrication

Fuel Mix: Always use fresh, clean unleaded gasoline mixed with high-quality 2-stroke oil at a 50:1 ratio. Do not use old or stale fuel. Bar & Chain Oil: Use proper viscosity oil for lubrication. Check oil level frequently and refill as needed.

  1. Mix fuel in a clean, approved container.
  2. Fill fuel tank on level ground, away from ignition sources.
  3. Check oiler output: Run saw at full throttle against a light-colored surface; a line of oil should appear.

Tip: Never run the saw without bar and chain oil, as it will cause rapid wear and damage.

Cutting Techniques

Supports felling, limbing, bucking, and pruning.

  1. Felling: Plan escape path. Make notch cut and back cut. Use wedges if needed.
  2. Limbing: Work from trunk outward. Keep saw stable; avoid cutting with tip.
  3. Bucking: Support log off ground. Cut from top down, avoiding pinching.
  4. Pruning: Use bottom of bar for control. Beware of spring-back.
  5. Kickback Prevention: Maintain firm grip, do not cut with upper tip of bar, use reduced-kickback chain.
  6. Sharpening: Use round file and guide to maintain sharp cutters regularly.

WARNING! Always be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar nose). Never operate above shoulder height.

Maintenance Schedule

Daily: Clean air filter, check chain tension and sharpness, clean saw body. Weekly: Clean spark arrestor screen, check spark plug. Monthly: Clean fuel filter, check all nuts and bolts for tightness. Annually: Have professional service for carburetor adjustment and compression check.

Storage Guidelines

For long-term storage: Drain fuel tank and run carburetor dry. Remove chain and bar, clean and oil them. Store in a dry, cool place. For short-term: Empty fuel tank if storing more than 30 days.

CAUTION! Fuel left in the carburetor can gum up and cause starting problems. Always use fuel stabilizer if storing with fuel.

Safety Information

Read manual thoroughly before use. Always wear PPE. Do not operate when tired or under influence. Keep hands and feet away from cutting area. Use proper grip – left hand on front handle, right on rear. Be aware of your surroundings and falling hazards. The chain brake is a safety device; test it regularly. Comply with local regulations for chainsaw use.
