Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Wear protective gear: helmet, goggles, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and hearing protection.

  1. Clear work area of obstacles and bystanders.
  2. Inspect chainsaw for damage before each use.
  3. Ensure chain brake is functional.
  4. Use proper grip: left hand on front handle, right on rear.
  5. Never operate above shoulder height or with one hand.

WARNING! Risk of severe injury or death from kickback, chain contact, or falling branches. Always maintain secure footing and control.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach guide bar: Place bar onto studs, align chain sprocket.
  2. Install chain: Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Tension chain: Adjust via side screw until chain snaps back when pulled from bar.
  4. Fill fuel: Use fresh gasoline mixed with 2-stroke oil (50:1 ratio for STIHL HP Ultra).
  5. Fill oil tank: Use STIHL chainsaw bar oil or equivalent.

CAUTION! Fuel is highly flammable; refuel in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool.

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Main Controls: Master Control Lever (combines stop switch, choke, and start positions), Throttle Trigger, Throttle Lockout, Chain Brake Lever, Decompression Valve Button.

Master Control Positions: STOP (0), RUN (I), START/CHOKE (II).

Chain Brake: Engages manually (push forward) or automatically via inertia. Throttle Lockout: Must be pressed to allow throttle trigger movement. Decompression Valve: Press to reduce compression for easier starting. Fuel/Oil Caps: Marked for respective tanks.

Starting & Operation

Starting Procedure (Cold Engine):

  1. Engage chain brake by pushing lever forward.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set Master Control to START/CHOKE (II).
  4. Pump primer bulb (if equipped) 5-6 times.
  5. Place on ground, hold rear handle with right foot, pull starter cord briskly until engine fires.
  6. Move Master Control to RUN (I) and pull until engine starts.
  7. Disengage chain brake by pulling lever back toward handle.

Tip: For warm restart, set Master Control to RUN (I) and pull starter cord.

Maintenance Schedule

Daily/Before Use: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication; inspect for loose fasteners; clean air intake.

  1. Weekly: Clean spark arrestor screen; check fuel filter.
  2. Monthly: Clean cooling fins; inspect spark plug; replace air filter if dirty.
  3. Annually: Replace fuel filter; clean carburetor (if needed); professional servicing recommended.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance to prevent accidental starting.

Chain & Bar Care

Chain Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (e.g., 5/32" for 3/8" pitch). Maintain 30° filing angle. File each cutter evenly.

Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove weekly; flip bar monthly for even wear; lubricate sprocket tip.

CAUTION! Dull chain increases kickback risk and reduces cutting efficiency. Always wear gloves when handling chain.

Storage Guidelines

Long-term Storage (over 30 days):

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Store in dry, cool place away from ignition sources.

Tip: Use fuel stabilizer if draining is not possible.
