Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before operation. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and gloves.
  2. Operating Area: Keep bystanders, pets, and children at least 50 feet away. Be aware of dust and debris.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use only STIHL MotoMix or 50:1 gasoline/oil mixture.
  4. Hot Surfaces: Avoid contact with muffler and cylinder during/after operation.

WARNING! Risk of fire, explosion, and burn injury. Never operate in enclosed spaces or near flammable materials.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack all components. Assemble according to illustrations.

  1. Attach Blower Tube: Align tube with blower outlet and twist to lock into place. Secure with locking lever if equipped.
  2. Install Harness: Adjust shoulder straps and waist belt for snug, comfortable fit. Connect throttle cable to harness clip.
  3. Fuel Mix: Use STIHL HP Ultra oil mixed with 89 octane (or higher) unleaded gasoline at a 50:1 ratio. Shake well.
  4. Initial Start: Place unit on clear, flat ground. Set master control lever to cold start position (choke). Pull starter rope until engine fires, then move lever to run position.

CAUTION! Ensure all fasteners are tight before operation. Do not force components during assembly.

Starting Procedure: 1. Press air purge bulb. 2. Set master control to cold start. 3. Pull starter rope until engine fires. 4. Move lever to run position. 5. Squeeze throttle trigger to disengage idle.

Operation: Adjust harness for balance. Use sweeping motions for efficient debris movement. Engage cruise control for prolonged use at constant speed.

Fuel & Lubrication

Use fresh fuel. STIHL MotoMix recommended for optimal performance and storage.

  1. Fueling: Clean area around cap. Use funnel. Fill to marked level. Wipe spills.
  2. Mix Ratio: 50:1 (2.6 fl. oz. of STIHL HP Ultra oil per 1 gallon of gasoline).
  3. Lubrication: Gearbox is lubricated at factory. No user service required under normal use.

Tip: Never use fuel older than 30 days. Ethanol-blended fuels can cause damage; use fuel stabilizer if required.

Maintenance Schedule

Perform maintenance with engine off and cool. Use STIHL genuine parts.

  1. Daily: Check for loose fasteners, damage. Clean air filter (tap out debris).
  2. Weekly: Inspect spark plug, fuel filter, and blower tube for wear.
  3. Monthly: Check anti-vibration elements and harness straps.
  4. Annually: Have unit serviced by an authorized STIHL dealer for internal inspection.
  5. Spark Plug: Clean and regap to 0.020" (0.5 mm) or replace as needed.
  6. Air Filter: Clean with warm, soapy water, dry completely, re-oil with STIHL filter oil.
  7. Fuel Filter: Replace every 3 months or as needed.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug boot before performing maintenance.

Storage

Long-term Storage: 1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops. 2. Remove spark plug and add 1 teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder. Pull starter slowly to distribute. Reinstall plug. 3. Clean entire unit. 4. Store in dry, locked place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Fuel left in tank can degrade and damage engine components.

Warranty Information

STIHL Limited Warranty: 12 months for residential use; 90 days for commercial use from date of purchase. Proof of purchase required.
